Privacy policy

This policy explains what personal data VegExpress (“we”, “us”) collects when you use our website, order from us or contact us, and what we do with it. We are the data controller for this information and we handle it in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA).

What we collect

  • Order details — your name, phone number, email address, delivery address, the items you buy and any delivery notes.
  • Account details — if you create an account, your login email and order history.
  • Messages — what you send us through contact and business enquiry forms, email, phone or WhatsApp.
  • Payment information — card and bank payments are processed by Paystack. We never see or store your full card number; we receive only a payment reference, status and the last four digits where provided.
  • Usage data — pages viewed, device and browser type, approximate location and similar data collected through cookies and analytics tools.

Why we use it

  • To process, deliver and support your orders (performance of a contract).
  • To reply to your questions and business enquiries (your request, and our legitimate interest in serving customers).
  • To keep tax and accounting records (legal obligation).
  • To understand how the site is used and improve it, and to measure our advertising (your consent, where required).
  • To send marketing messages, only if you have opted in. You can unsubscribe at any time.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with service providers who help us run the business, and only as far as they need it:

  • Paystack — to take payments securely.
  • Delivery riders and logistics partners — your name, phone number and address, to deliver your order.
  • WhatsApp (Meta) — if you choose to contact us or order on WhatsApp, your messages are handled under WhatsApp’s own privacy terms.
  • Google Analytics — to measure site traffic and usage.
  • Meta Pixel — to measure and improve our adverts on Facebook and Instagram.
  • Hosting and IT providers — who store our website and order system.
  • Regulators or law enforcement — where the law requires it.

Some of these providers process data outside Nigeria. Where that happens we rely on safeguards permitted under the NDPA, such as contractual protections.

Cookies and analytics

We use essential cookies and browser storage to keep your basket and remember your session. Google Analytics and Meta Pixel set their own cookies to measure visits and advertising. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and use Google’s and Meta’s own opt-out tools; the shop will still work.

How long we keep it

We keep order and payment records for at least six years to meet tax and accounting obligations. Enquiries are kept for up to two years. Account data is kept until you ask us to close the account. Analytics data is retained according to the settings of each tool, and no longer than 26 months.

How we protect it

The site is served over encrypted connections, access to order data is limited to staff who need it, and payments are handled entirely by a PCI DSS-certified processor. If a data breach is likely to put your rights at risk, we will notify you and the Nigeria Data Protection Commission as the NDPA requires.

Your rights

Under the NDPA you have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
  • have inaccurate data corrected, or your data deleted where we no longer need it;
  • withdraw consent, or object to or restrict certain processing, including direct marketing;
  • receive your data in a portable format;
  • complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (ndpc.gov.ng) if you are unhappy with how we have handled your data.

Children

Our shop is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows the latest version, and significant changes will be highlighted on the site.
